Here’s a Healthy and Also Environment-Friendly Trend: Plogging
A new fitness trend is for people who love exercise and the environment. You can think that some exercises are already environment friendly…
Plogging is a fitness trend that originated in Sweden (because of course) and means to pick up litter while jogging. It’s a word combination of “jogging” and “plocka upp (Swedish for pick up)” Erik Ahlström, an avid skier and trail runner, coined the term. To be a part of this movement, all you need to do is take a pair of gloves and a big cloth bag with you while running!
The first plogging organization of Ahlström was held in 2016. It has spread to the whole world with the effect of social media took place in 2018 and nowadays i it became a popular hashtag. Now the plogging movement has “reached all continents with plogging tours. (maybe not yet in Antarctica)we can get behind: exercise that also leads to a clean environment and community. Alternative movements with trash bags and incorporating squats and lunges becomes really good for your core health and different training programs being created around plogging. Their philosophy is; ‘Small steps daily bring about big change’The nice thing about plogging is that anyone can do it. Regular running or jogging offers many health benefits. However, plogging is an activity for all age groups and abilities ; runners, walkers, hikers, cyclists, and even paddleboarders are combining exercise with picking up trash. The most common items ploggers collect are cans and plastic bottles, bottle caps, snack and candy wrappers, fast food containers, cups, lids, straws, and cutlery. They find some pretty weird stuff, too, like clothes hangers, suitcases, and shoes; an exhaust pipe, car tires, and other car parts… Unfortunately people are spreading them around, tooPloggers use social media as a connection way. They share different ideas with other ploggers, encourage newcomers, publicize plogging events. Indeed, sharing your spoils on social media is part of the fun and every picture can tell a different story. They all do things a little different, but they share a focus on fun and fitness.
Social media isn’t the only way people find out about plogging events. Many groups welcome new members during their planned runs. Most people appreciate ploggers and the reactions are very positive. No one complains that you are picking up trash. In fact, many ploggers say they feel good because they are doing something positive and run with a purpose. When they look back and see the difference of earth, feeling like a part of this favor.
Plogging aims for a clean and healthy world not for only now, but also for the future.
